Steve was elected to Ripley Town Council in 1991 as a Labour Councillor.

Steve aims to improve the Ripley Township by leading the development of services and jobs done or supported by the Town Council.
Steve is a founder and Chair of the popular Ripley Music Festival and he is also involved with other community organisations. He is the former Chair of the Butterley Ironworks Trust and the Derbyshire Autism Services Trust.
Outside council and voluntary organisation activities, Steve reads extensively and enjoys eating out. He also follows the fortunes of Derbyshire County Cricket Club and Nottingham Forest Football Club very closely.
