Chris Saunders
(North Ward)
61, Warmwells Lane Ripley DE5 8JB Tel: 07890 191916 c.saunders@ripleytowncouncil.gov.uk Chris was elected to Ripley Town Council in May 2019. He wanted to become a Councillor due to his interest in politics and the recent Brexit fiasco. He feels that the actions of the electorate on recent years have been representative of individual and personal motivations and not the will of the people. He wants to be a new-age Councillor and one that takes a view of what is really needed to improve the lives of those they represent and not push any personal political ambition at the expense of this town, county or nation. Outside of the Council, Chris in interested in football, golf, snowboarding, skiing, paddle boarding, visiting a minimum of two new countries every year, visiting historic sites and ancestry. Chris is currently looking to better understand what is going on in the community over the coming months and will be engaging with local groups about membership as we move through the year, Chris' focus is to use the skills from his professional life to make a difference in the town of Ripley. He works for a developer who deals with difficult sites and turns them into viable projects for the benefit of the local community. With the recent greenbelt review, these skills could be well-utilised to shift our local house building focus to difficult brownfield sites and deliver affordable homes for our town. In addition, Chris' organisation is also one of the globe's largest renewable energy providers. Their Corporate Strategy is centred around zero carbon transition. He works with local councils around the country to deliver new build housing sites but also electric vehicles charging points, rooftop solar and a number of other carbon neutral measures. This experience will be extremely helpful in helping the town fulfil its commitment to reducing carbon emissions in Ripley. Declaration of Interest |
