Amber Valley Stroke Group

Amber valley Stroke Group was formed in 1982 and became a registered charity in 2002.

Its main purpose back then was to provide a social place for stroke survivors and their carer's to meet with others dealing with stroke. The meetings are centred around entertainment with tea and biscuits, raffle etc.

It has stayed that way pretty much up till recent times. We realise now, that stroke does not discriminate with age and more and more working age people are being affected. So, with that in mind and after attending the annual (Stroke Associations Clubs Conference) in Nottingham recently, we are planning on introducing more activity based meetings, as well as entertainers and speakers to complement the program of things on offer.

These will involve such things as indoor curling, Boccia and other games that help promote balance and co-ordination, which are important for stroke survivors with mobility issues. There will be trivia style activities, crafting and other group activity based tasks.

We are currently a small group of happy stroke survivors and their carer's. We hope this new approach to meetings will give us a fresh image fit for the 21st century and encourage more working age stroke survivors to come join our happy family, where we can have fun make new friends and learn to live our new lives with stroke to the full and realise that.
