We are a warm and welcoming community of Christians from the town and wider area who love God and love Ripley and are looking for God’s blessing for this town and area. We are part of the Church of England, and our church of All Saints is the parish church for most of the town of Ripley and some of the nearby area. We long to see our lives and communities transformed through the love of Jesus. On Sunday mornings at 10.00am, generally on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month alongside our regular worship we have ‘Young Church’. A fun and friendly place where children and young people can explore the Christian faith through games, films, craft activities and music, with Bible teaching.

In addition, once a month on Saturday afternoons at 4.00pm (as advertised) we also hold “JAM!” Families can gather to explore the Christian faith together through games, crafts, music and discussions. There are opportunities for social, creative outdoor activities and picnics throughout the year. Squeals on Wheels- held on Monday mornings 9.15-11.00am during term time, the church is transformed to accommodate our parent/guardian toddler group. Most of the session is unstructured play time with a craft and puzzle tables, a baby area and lots of toys available. There is a short organised singing and dancing time with a Bible story told at the end of each session. We offer tea, juice and biscuits, and most importantly toast!

Open the Book is an exciting storytelling project. The Open the Book team go into local primary schools and present a 10 to 15-minute scripted Bible story, which is very much enjoyed by the children.

Open Door, each Friday morning 10.00am-12pm sees the back of the church transformed into a friendly café area as we serve tea, coffee and cake. It is a comfortable and supportive place where people make and meet friends.

Sunday Worship- we meet for worship every Sunday morning at 10.45 am. There is a service at both sites most Sundays but, at least once a month, we celebrate together as a single church family in one building or the other. Services are usually led by the minister or a local preacher. Sometimes our worship follows a fairly traditional pattern whilst, on other occasions, it is more contemporary but there's always something for everyone.

Sunday Club and Sunday School- we have activities for children and young people every Sunday morning. At Marehay, Sunday Club meets at 9 am whist, at Waingroves, Sunday School runs in another part of the building at the same time as the Sunday service. Amongst many other things, we have lots of stories and do craft work, drama and music. We also take time to discuss how the teaching of the Bible should be interpreted and applied in our lives. A greater emphasis is placed on this as the children grow older.

Bible Study Fellowship- we meet every Wednesday evening at 7.00 pm to study the Bible together. This is a united activity with our friends from Codnor Methodist Church so, if you would like to join us, please check with us first to determine the correct location.

We also meet to study the Bible together at other times – usually during the special Christian festivals and celebrations.

Prayer- Prayer is a constant part of Christian life on both an individual and collective basis. We come together virtually (on Zoom and by telephone) every Saturday morning at 10.30 am to pray about our concerns for the local community and the wider world. (To join the virtual Prayer Meeting, all you need is a phone. You join from your home, your car, your garden or anywhere else. Please contact us via this website for details of how to join in).

In addition, our Prayer Chains can be used to mobilise our congregation between services and activities to pray for any person or situation as required. If you have a prayer request, please contact us.

Village Coffee- Village Coffee takes place at Marehay on the last Thursday of each month. It runs from 10 am to 12 noon and give everyone a chance to call in, have refreshments and share conversation. All are welcome whether you have two minutes or two hours to spare.

Stay and Play- Pre-school age children and their parents and carers meet in school term time every Wednesday morning at Marehay from 9.30 am to 11 am. We have books, puzzles, crafts, 'ride on' toys and much more.

Welcome to the website of Marehay and Waingroves Methodist Church (MWMC).

We are a group of people of all ages who meet together regularly as followers of Jesus – to offer friendship, to share fellowship, to learn, to care and to serve our neighbours in the communities of which we consider ourselves a part. We believe that community starts with the people next door, finishes with those on the other side of the world and includes everyone in between.

We have two buildings (one in Marehay and one in Waingroves) and we do lots of things - some very regularly whilst others only happen from time to time. Details of our regular activities and special events can be found on the other pages of this site. If there’s anything else you would like to know, please get in contact with us.

We hope you enjoy visiting our website and hope you will visit us in person in due course – we would love to see you and you would be made very welcome.

We are part of the Mid-Derbyshire Methodist Circuit and the Methodist Church in Britain. We also form part of the Three Churches of Codnor & Waingroves and work closely with our friends at St James' Church, Codnor and Codnor Methodist Church.

If you would like to learn more about the things we and other Christians believe, take a look at rejesus.co.uk (link to www.christianity.org.uk).
