We are pleased to announce that the new edition of the Ripley Town Guide is available from Ripley Library - free of charge!

An important part of any Town Guide is the street map, and as there have been many new building developments in Ripley over the years, with new street names, we hope the new fold-out map will be very helpful.

We have also taken the opportunity to put the history of Ripley into an easily accessible form (A5 in size), with ten pages of snippets of interesting information about the town centre and the villages of the township.

It tells us about the sawmills at Sawmills and the Amber Gate at Ambergate as well as the path from The Green that became Grosvenor Road.

The history of Waingroves, Hammersmith, the Market Place, Co-op Square, Ambergate, Sawmills, Street Lane, Heage, Marehay, and Butterley are all covered in the new guide.

There is also a list of the local community groups that are financially supported by the Town Council and a list of useful telephone numbers.

The guide has been written by Ian Fisher, with assistance from Peter Smith and the Ripley & District Heritage Trust and a great deal of editorial support from Ripley Town Clerk, Linda McCormick.

The Town Guide can also be downloaded here
