Councillor Ian Fisher with his certificate, sat on a desk in front of a white wall with Ripley Town Council written on it
The Derbyshire Association of Local Councils (DALC) selected Ripley Town Councillor Ian Fisher to receive the Highly Commended Award for Derbyshire Councillor of the Year 2021.
Councillor Fisher has volunteered as a Councillor for many years. Throughout the past year and a half, he has dedicated his time to researching about and writing a new ‘Ripley Town Guide’ and text for new information boards about the history of our Township. These are being installed around the Ripley area later this week, so please keep an eye out for them.
Through the Town Guide and information boards, Cllr Fisher is eager to educate our local community about the rich history of Ripley and the surrounding villages. He feels it is important for people to know about how our town grew and its historical industrial significance.
Cllr Fisher’s vision has meant he has volunteered his time both for his ongoing work for the Council and for producing the Town Guide and information boards. By doing this, he has put the history of Ripley into an easily accessible form for the whole community to experience.
The Town Guide will be available in local schools to give the young people in our township an insight into how their town/village used to be. Cllr Fisher is enthusiastic about this aspect coming as a result of the publication as he is passionate about new ways our council can engage with the youth in our community.
Free copies of the Ripley Town Guide can be collected from Ripley Library or it can be read on our website here
You can view the content of the information boards in our newsletters and on our website here
